Guess The Big Reclining Buddha

Being a solo traveler, until now I’d never used a local guide when I explore the temples in Angkor Archaeological Park. The info about those temples are hugely provided in the internet. Beside that, I have some books about Angkor temples at home. (Although honestly, most of the time I didn’t read it carefully 😀 )

I believe that if I want to know something related to Angkor temples, I can google it or just read books. Everything is there…

But, one day you will pay the paper!

It’s about Reclining Buddha in Baphuon Temple!

I have read somewhere that there’s a Reclining Buddha in Baphuon temple. But what came into my mind at that time was the usual image of Reclining Buddha as I saw in almost Buddhist temples. Nothing can surprise me. The image of Reclining Buddha is similar everywhere.

Then I had a chance to go to Baphuon temple.

That time, I walked floor by floor, explored every corner looking for the Reclining Buddha. I didn’t find it! I went to the top floor, usually the Buddha image was there but again, I could not find it. Nothing. I did not want to give up. I did it again from the base to the top for the second time. But, nothing! I could not find it in the Baphuon Temple.

At the end I got a feeling of cheating ! 😀

I followed a group of tourists and hope that I have a quick chance to talk to their guide. Hope that he would give me a free information about Reclining Buddha and how lucky I was. He told about the Reclining Buddha quickly, it’s on the backside of the temple. See from the ground.

Then I run to the backyard of the temple. I looked at the temple with puzzled face. I saw nothing. But again, how lucky I was. A young guy near me told his friends with finger appointed somewhere.

That’s the head!

I tried to follow his finger and… finally I got the picture. Wow!!!
