Who doesn’t know about Silver Pagoda? A well-known temple as a place of worship that is part of The Royal Palace compound in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. Located on the south side of The Royal Palace, this extravagant and notable temple is also known as Wat Preah Keo Morakot or the temple of Emerald-Chrystal Buddha, although its official name is Wat Ubaosoth Ratanaram.
Besides the Pagoda itself, I had fallen in love being there in the yard of Silver Pagoda from the very first time visit. Although I like its atmosphere in the morning also, I preferred to visit it in the late afternoon, a brief moment before its closing time. It is not long. Do you know why?
Based on my experiences, it is the best time to feel the peacefulness and total serenity of Silver Pagoda. No more tourists, the people who are still in the yard usually one or two temple guards or the soft drink seller.
I had once sat on a plastic stool of the soft-drink seller in the yard of Silver Pagoda, just to watch the beautiful late afternoon sky over the spires of Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and also the intricate stupas with no tourists in the yard. It was totally quiet and intimate that seemed I could feel the temple’s soul. I was lucky enough to see lots of birds flying to give a touch of Khmer’s atmosphere.
From the place I sat, I could see also the miniature of Angkor Wat which was located behind Silver Pagoda. I’m a temple lover, so seeing the miniature of Angkor Wat made me happy. For me, it is a reminder to return and visit the real Angkor Wat,
Seemed, everything in the yard of Silver Pagoda has related to each other and I was able to feel its tight relations in the late afternoon that day.
And it also tied me.
