Banteay Srei For The Art Lover

We all know that Angkor Wat is the greatest majestic temple that becomes the main reason the tourists go to Angkor Archaeological Park. Ta Prohm temple may attract the tourists because of photogenic and atmospheric combination of trees growing out of the temple. Bayon may attract us  because of the smiling faces that fulfilled the temple. But for me, I always recommend Banteay Srei for those who love Khmer Art; and feel the tranquility of the atmosphere if lucky enough.

Banteay Srei is relatively small compared to Angkor Wat,  Ta Prohm or Bayon or other big temples in the complex. Banteay Srei or literally means the Citadel of Women, is located around 25 kilometer north-east of the main complex. It’s a little bit far, -means we have to give more money the tuktuk driver-, but it’s totally worth to go.

Banteay Srei Temple

Mostly built of red sandstone, Banteay Srei becomes the most popular temple that is full of intricate carvings of Khmer Art.

The tourist will feel the beauty of this temple on the first step into the temple’s yard. The reddish color makes this temple different to the other ones. If we look at the lintels, -the decorations above the door-, then we will see scenes from the Hindu mythology. Although the visitors have no basic knowledge of the its history or Hindu mythology, but the visitors can see and enjoy its beauty.

Well, words are not adequate to describe its intricate beauty, but perhaps you will agree with me when you see the photos of the temple. Those photos are only some parts of the temple. More beauties there if you see by your own eyes. The details are totally outstanding.
