WPC – Transformation Memorial

The Statue of late King Sihanouk and Independence Monument at the background

November is the month in Cambodian people’s mind regarding transformation of their nation. Its Independence Day which is always celebrated on November 9, is a commemorative day for independence from being the French protectorate. While most of Cambodian people, especially the older generation, love the late King Norodom Sihanouk, who was the focus of respect from all nations as the father of independence on November 9, 1953 when its independence was declared.

As bringing the spirit of transformation of the nation, the statue of late King Sihanouk -who was died on October 15, 2012 in Beijing-, was built near the Independence Monument on the city center of Phnom Penh. These monuments are worth for visiting especially at sunset till evening with the lights on.
